Wah Mumbai Police

REWARDS AND PUNISHMENTS GO TOGATHER

TOI & Hindustan Times Mumbai 0f 25-12- 08 carried a news that Commissioner Police & Maharashtra govt have recommended all 12 Police personnel who died during terrorist attack in Mumbai in November 08 for ASHOK CHAKRA. This recommendation is debatable.
Do we give ASHOK CHAKRAS to all those who died during action with terrorists/ Naxals?.According to this logic, all those policemen, security personnel who died in Punjab, Manipur & J&K are also eligible for gallantry awards. Let us not dilute the importance and value of these awards. Let us be reasonable and give awards to really deserving persons.

Without being prejudiced, I feel some of our policemen did not go down fighting. Some of them were just sitting ducks including some senior officers. They perhaps thought that they were going for routine encounter with criminals who are not usually well armed.

Rewards and Punishments go together specially in armed forces. What action has been proposed against police personnel who were located across the road from Leopold in Colaba and allowed terrorist to freely walk to Taj Hotel and those who failed in their duties?

My Reflections

Blog Day 1

First about myself, having seen 65 summers in various parts of our country, during studies joined The Indian Army as a Commissioned Officer in 1963, fought two wars in 1965(Chamb Jauriyan) & 1971(Chittagong Hilltract) & subsequently served with elite Para Military forces. I consider myself lucky to have survived through all adventures of Parachuting / Skydiving / Rafting / trekking / Sports / Two Wars & Insurgencies.

I have closely watched Govt of India’s working for 37 years & extensively travelled with in the country with a camera & a notebook for last 48 years. I consider myself a virtual nomad, a refugee in my own country (I have no voter’s ID card or ration card). Now I make documentary films as a hobby, study world cinema, watch plays & enjoy all types of folk & light classical music. Since having crossed the qualifying age of a Senior Citizen (65 from the IT point of view, railway’s point of view 5 years back), I feel one of the few advantages of stumbling through overdarkning inner suburbs of old age is that one is free to say exactly what one feels.

I have been prodded by my well meaning friends to start my blog & share my experience & observations with others. I have decided to start my blog today.

The unfortunate incident of 26/11 has left many scars, exposed loopholes in our preparedness & planning & left many questions unanswered. We the Indians deserve proper answers. Who is going to give them? Delhi is busy, next elections are due. We are howling & threatening Pakistan about surgical strike. Why bark when you can’t bite? We have all the right to attack terror camps with in POK. Legally POK is a part of India & we need not seek permission from anyone. Do we have the Political will?

Our present Government is headed by bunch of indecisive leaders. We take long long time for selecting CM’s of states, they set another fine example of our democracy that the leader of the state assembly is selected or nominated from Delhi. Our lame MLA’s meet to take unanimous decision to nominate their leader by the party president in Delhi. What kind of Democracy is this? What kinds of Representatives are being elected by our people?

Mumbai terror attacks have exposed too many weak points which needs to be looked into sincerely & take immediate remedial measures. I would take on one serious question at a time:-

One news had appeared in the papers that some of the Mumbai police personnel had not had firing practice in the past 10 years or so.
This is shocking to say the least…

Annual allotment ammunition for annual firing practice is utilized or just utilized on paper? This can be verified from the record of the if the ammunition has been expended, but the constabulary has not fired. Where has the ammunition gone?
The Naxal do not have any ammunition factory, from where do they get their supplies? Obviously someone is supplying them ammunition. Empty, fired cases are on paper, deposited & auctioned off by police / Para military forces. Army is no saint…

Who will look into the possibility? I would welcome suggestions in this regard.
